Open Carry: Really!?!

I have been trying to get my mind around the ‘Open Carry’ issue currently facing legislative action in California. To summarize, California is an ‘Open Carry’ state whereby you can carry a gun (must be unloaded and you can not carry ammo) in public as long as it is not concealed. The issue…naturally…comes from both law enforcement and general anti-gun proponents.

Law Enforcement argues that ‘open carry’ people present an unusual threat to law enforcement because of several reasons. One…people are not trained properly. Two…It is to easy to get ammo because people get angry and start shooting. Well…first of all…to buy a gun in California you have to pass a test and then you are vetted by the Justice Department: you must be of sound charactor and have no felonies or violent misdemeanors. Essentially..you must be Joe Citizen. Well…that is okay with me. But what about Brad the Gangbanger…who is not vetted but seems to have enough firepower (including automatic weapons) to start a small war. Who protects Joe Citizen from them now that law enforcement agencies throughout California are forced to layoff officers due to budget cuts. Response times are rapidly becoming longer and longer. Sorry…I would rather have my gun…and not need it…than need a gun and not have one.

Anti-Gun Proponents: Sorry guys and girls…I am a Vietnam Veteran, honorable discharged, and most of all….of sound mind and body. The only reason I have a gun is because all of the bad guys seem to have them…and they don’t much care about the fact that they shouldn’t have them…being bad guys and all. The harsh reality is that law enforcement is slowly being downsized everywhere and if I need them….they will indeed come out…sometime. In the meantime, I  vote….I am a good guy and follow all the rules and laws of the land. But…I absolutely insist on being able to defend myself and my family….especially from the bad guys who have no respect for the law or anybody else. It’s okay that you are anti-gun…but if you ever need help…I hope the police can get to you in time to save your life…or your family.

Detroit and Oakland: Two Police Departments

Detroit Police first reported that an accidental discharge of an officer’s weapon resulted in a sleeping child’s death after the sleeping child was shot in the neck. Apparently, the officer was ‘bumped into’ or was ‘bumped by’ another person within the dwelling as officers entered with drawn weapons. Now..there is a report of a video that apparently shows officers firing into the dwelling before they entered the dwelling. Something is amiss here….and a quick and fair review is necessary by an outside party. If there was a shooting into a dwelling by an officer without cause….then we should rightfully expect the district attorney to take the appropriate action.

Oakland California Police Officer apparently had to shoot a young deer 7 times because an dispatch officer ordered the shooting. Not sure why yet…but I wonder what Bambi did in an enclosed backyard to warrant such drastic action by the Oakland Police department. Actually…what I am really concerned about is the need to shoot 7 times. Was the officer such a bad shot that they couldn’t dispatch poor Bambi with just 1 shot…or 2 shots? Is it even deer season in Oakland? Did the officer have the proper tags to take this deer? Where is the California Department of Fish and Game? Did Bambi have a criminal record of such horrific past behavior that Bambi actually ‘deserved’ this summary execution under the ‘flag of justice.?”

Welcome: A Biased Look at Everything!

Welcome to the Eaglesource’s ‘faster than light…’ Blog.  We will explore all aspects of society from the International Relations perspective:  that is simply ‘whatever we can do to survive’ on the political, societal, and humanistic scale.   I admit that this is a biased perspective…after all…most commentary is.  But….I will take on the issues that interest me…and only me.  Come along for the ride if you would like to….and comments…while appreciated…will probably not change my mind.

ARIZONA: Arizona recently passed a law whereby law enforcement can and will ask for proof of citizenship although the current focus will be on ‘reasonable’ stops.  Whatever that means.  I do think that most ‘reasonable’ stops will occur for Hispanic (read brown skin) looking people.  Anyone going to count Canadians?  Japanese tourists (we think) at Old Tucson?  How about those crazy Russians?  I think I will order my special t-shirt that states “Vietnam Veteran and a Voting Citizen with a Passport: I only look like an illegal!”  I could wear my special t-shirt in Arizona…and still be stopped!  Then I would have to show my drivers license, my voter registration card, my graduate degree, my military DD214 (honorable discharge by the way!)…and finally…in a pinch….my two leg scars….courtesy of the 1968 Class of the University of South Vietnam – I Corps section.
